Design and Specification

The Sony Xperia Z1 is THE upper echelon premium flagship phone from Sony and the successor to the Xperia Z.

Measuring 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm and weighing a hefty 170g, The Xperia Z1 weighs a little bit more than its predecessor when coupled with the upgrades it’s got.
Being a premium phone, The Xperia Z1 is made out of Aluminum and scratch-resistant glass.
The two scratch-resistant glass panels are on the front and back, while the aluminum chassis is really is just a frame – not a solid block, leaving only a light but tough frame.
The phone is quite a handful and hold and feels chunky due its weight.

The Sony Xperia Z1 comes with a 5 inch 1080 x 1920 pixel Triluminos display, bringing the pixel density to a staggering 441ppi and is backed up by the company's X-Reality engine.
Unlike the Xperia Z, The Xperia Z1 is powered by a Quad-core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 running on a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2 GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU giving it a major performance bump.
The phone runs Android OS, v4.2 Jelly Bean and is expected to receive a v4.4 KitKat upgrade.

Camera and Multimedia

The camera department is where the Xperia Z1 received one the most prominent upgrades over its predecessor.
The Sony Xperia Z1 boasts a unique Exmor RS sensor, custom built for the latest flagship.
Being the highest resolution camera available on an Android smartphone it has a relatively large sensor at 1/2.3 inches.
The Xperia Z1 uses a wide-angle 27mm Sony G Lens camera with a Sony BIONZ image processor capable of taking still photos at 20.7 MP, 5248 Ñ… 3936 pixels with auto focus and a LED flash.
The phone also comes with a dedicated hardware shutter button, which gives taking pictures a more premium feeling.
The camera app offers a wide range of built-in features.
Manual mode - which gives you total control over the settings, Superior auto mode – which is self-explanatory apart from the fact that the resolution drops to 8 MP for more sharper pictures, Sweep panorama and Augment reality effects which stamps one of several virtual worlds over your scene.
There’s also face detection, smile shutter, geo-tagging, touch capture with burst shoot and tracking auto-focus.

Connectivity

The Sony Xperia Z1 has quad-band 2G and 3G connectivity across all regional models, and support for more LTE bandsas well.
Apart from LTE speeds, the Z1 is capable of up to 42 Mbps downlink and 5.76 Mbps uplink.
Local connectivity is covered by dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct.
There's also Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DPand NFC.
MicroUSB handles the charging and PC connectivity, and there's also USB On-the-go support.
The MHL-enabled microUSB port also supports HDMI connections to an external monitor.

Battery and Storage

The Sony Xperia Z1 also comes with a bigger battery than its predecessor.
The 3000 mAH Li-Ion battery has an endurance rating of 53 hours and also offers talk time of 27 hours and standby time of 850 hours on 3G.
Storage is limited to 16 GB of internal memory and can be further expanded to 64 GB using a micro-SD card.
